Method
Cream the butter and both sugars until smooth and slightly aerated. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt separately. Mix into the butter mixture just until combined, then fold in chocolate.
Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. Heat the oven to 350°F and scoop onto parchment-lined pans.
Bake until the edges are golden and centers still look slightly soft, 10–13 minutes. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes before moving to a rack.
