Method
Heat the oven to 375°F. Toss the apples with granulated sugar, lemon, cinnamon, and cornstarch and spread in the baking dish.
Mix oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter until coarse clumps form.
Scatter the topping evenly over the apples without packing it down.
Bake until the fruit bubbles thickly and the topping is browned, 40–50 minutes. Rest for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Mix tart and sweet apple varieties for a more complex filling.
